We give you a lot of tools to improve your kill death ratio in Black Ops 2 and really in any other first person shooter game. We are super excited to give you one more tool: tactical movement. Tactical movement is one of the best ways to increase your kills and reduce your deaths in Black Ops 2. In previous posts we told you where to play on the map. Tactical movement will help you move from place to place in the map. While we were at Front Sight, Nevada we learned a little about real-life tactical movement. Cutting the pie was a key fundamental to this.
Strafing (or Sidestepping)
We have mentioned strafing in the past–sidestepping around corners so that your aim is always in the direction you could be killed from. You should always be facing the direction the enemy is most likely to approach from. Remember to keep your red zone in mind as you move throughout the map—this should keep you from dying as much and should improve your kill death ratio.
Cutting the pie takes this concept one step further. Instead of jamming your movement stick to the right or left and sweeping out around a corner, take it a little slower. This is coming from real life—and you do not have as many respawns in THAT game. But the pros in real life will tell you to edge around a corner in a way that gives you the most control over your entry into the line of fire.
As you sidestep into an area, your view is obscured by the wall and opens up gradually as you sidestep into view. This has advantages, as you do not have to turn too much, and you can see any enemies or objectives as soon as you step into the open. The problem is that by sidestepping out, you expose yourself before your have any enemies centered in your field of view.
Cutting the pie is going to improve your kill death ratio in Black Ops 2 because by combining turning and sidestepping, you open up your field of view gradually. This results in your field of view sweeping into the area while covering what you can see AND what you are exposing yourself.
We call this “cutting the pie” because as you swing your field of view into the new area, you are cutting slices of the space. As with pie cutting for most of us, you cut off only as much as you can handle at one time. This tactical movement strategy gives you a much better chance of being centered on your enemy before they have a chance to center on you. You will get kills sooner than you have been in these situations and you are much less likely to die. By seeing your enemy first, you will improve your kill death ratio–scoring extra kills where you may have been dying before.
Voila! Use this tactical movement to improve your kill death ratio in any first person shooter!
The below gif should show you how this looks from the first person view. Practice your tactical “pie cutting” and keep working on your skills. I will be.
