Black Ops 2 Scorestreaks: Match The Gametype

This post completed the series on Black Ops 2 scorestreak fundamentals. Last week we talked about getting the last kill before your scorestreak, matching scorestreaks to your skill level, and determining what streaks work for chaining. Today we kick off the week with your final consideration: gametype.

Certain gametypes lend themselves towars more or less points. Kill-objective gametypes like Team Deathmatch and Free For All award 100 points for kills, but do not have a huge opportunity to grab other points. Objective gametypes like Domination, Kill Confirmed, Hardpoint, etc. give you several opportunities to score non-kill points, and in some cases reward fewer points for kills.

Your score per minute will likely change based on the gametype you play. Load yourself out accordingly. Here is a good way to modify your scorestreaks loadout based on the gametype:

  1. Remember the starting streak points value you calculated in the Know Your Skill post? (if not, go back and read that…it is important!)
  2. Take this career spread and write it down. (400)
  3. Take your all time score per minute (SPM) and write that down. (251)
  4. Now, take your score per minute for Free for All, TDM, and any other objective gametypes you like to play regularly.  (FFA-274; TDM-206; Dom-313; KC-316)
  5. Take your Free for All and TDM scores per minute and average them. You can weight whichever type you play more accordingly. I play five times as many TDM games as FFA so I will weigh the SPM more towards the TDM number. (206*5+274/6 = 217 SPM)
  6. Take your objective SPM and do a similar calculation. (313*2 + 316 = 314 SPM)
  7. Divide your FFA and TDM SPM over your career SPM and round to the nearest 0.5. (217/251 = 1)
  8. Multiply this by the points for your base scorestreak we calculated in the Know Your Skill post. This new number is the highest you should go with your first skillstreak in kill-objective type games.
  9. Divide your objective SPM over your career SPM and round to the nearest 0.5. (314/251 = 1.5)
  10. Multiply this by the points for your base scorestreak we calculated in the Know Your Skill post. This new number is the highest you should go with your first skillstreak in objective type games.
Your objective games will give you more points and more opportunities to rack up higher scorestreaks in Black Ops 2. Use this to your advantage by changing your starting streak based on your gametype. Review the chaining post to make some decisions about your chained scorestreaks. Enjoy playing with a little more “umph” in your try!

Keep working on your skills. I will be.

To help you understand the concept, here is an example:

Starting Streak Points Value: 425
All Time SPM: 125

SPM for TDM: 100
SPM for FFA: 200
Avg for TDM & FFA: 150
÷ All Time SPM 125
= 1.2
Rounded to .5 1
x Starting Streap Pts. 425
= pts. 425

SPM for Objective 1: 250
SPM for Objective 2: 300
SPM for Objective 3: 200
Avg for Objectives: 250
÷ All Time SPM 125
= 2
Rounded to .5 2
x Starting Streap Pts. 425
= pts. 850
